The Controller is a senior member of the Finance Department at Vitro, a mid-size, award-winning, 28-year-old agency in beautiful San Diego that has twice made the Ad Age Top Ten. The controller reports to the CEO and has a dotted-line reporting to the parent company, MDC Partners.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Achieves the timely recording of all transactions and the preparation of all financial reports
  • Manages client billing, both media and production
  • Manages monthly closing. Controls the flow of data into general ledger
  • Prepares monthly balance sheets and profit/loss statements
  • Maintains all corporate accounting records in accordance with established disposal schedules
  • Assists in the preparation of all audit/review schedules and review of the books and records with an outside audit team
  • Ensures that media payments to vendors are reviewed, verified and approved
  • Maintains adequate controls of receipts and disbursements
  • Ensures that the agency’s cash flow is adequate to meet its commitments
  • Prepares special reports and performs studies as directed by the CEO and MDC Partners
  • Protects corporate assets through sound accounting policies and procedures which include
  1. Provision for insurance coverage as required; and
  2. Protection of business assets and loss prevention through internal control and internal auditing
  • Contributes to corporate strategy and operations as a key member of the management team which includes
  1. Management of cash and other investments
  2. Maintenance of bank relationship
  3. Receipt, custody and disbursement of the company’s monies and securities, and
  4. Credit and collection management in a timely fashion
  • Obtains monthly projection of revenue from CEO, prepares annual and monthly expense forecasts upon which management decisions can be based, such as:
  1. Accuracy of all forecasts; and
  2. Appropriate budgets and budget directives
  • Administers tax strategy
  • Other projects as needed

Qualifications include:

  • Organizational, time management, negotiation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and attention to-detail, with proven ability to identify issues and implement solutions
  • Experience managing direct reports

Bachelor’s Degree is required, Master’s preferred, 7+ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) is required. ASC 606 experience preferred but not required.
